The Problem
Traditional reporting tracks milestones, budgets and deliverables. Those measures are essential — but they are largely retrospective.
The Change Momentum Index® measures the organizational conditions that shape those outcomes: whether leaders remain aligned, the organization has the capacity to absorb the change, resistance is building and adoption is gaining or losing velocity.
By the time a conventional dashboard turns red, recovery is often more difficult and more expensive. The CMI® gives leaders an earlier opportunity to intervene.
Transformation rarely stalls all at once. Momentum erodes through signals that conventional reporting often misses.
What the CMI® is
The Change Momentum Index® is a multidimensional diagnostic that identifies where transformation momentum stands, what is driving it and where leadership intervention will have the greatest effect.
It combines input across more than 15 dimensions into an executive view of transformation health — without requiring organizations to replace their current strategy, governance, delivery or change-management methods.
The Diagnostic
Not a sentiment survey. The CMI® examines more than 15 dimensions across Clarity, Commitment, and Execution — revealing where momentum is strengthening, where risk is emerging, and where leadership attention can have the greatest effect.
Clarity
Is direction understood and aligned across teams and levels?
Measures whether the transformation vision, priorities, intended outcomes and pace of change are understood consistently.
Commitment
Is genuine commitment strengthening — or beginning to weaken?
Reveals where leaders and teams are actively supporting the transformation, where commitment is becoming conditional and where visible participation may not reflect genuine buy-in.
Execution
Is organizational effort translating into measurable movement?
Assesses whether the organization has the capacity, capability, decision discipline and operating support required to absorb the change and convert intent into execution.
The Output
The CMI® synthesizes findings across Clarity, Commitment, and Execution into a clear view of where your transformation stands. Each initiative is placed within one of four Change Momentum Zones — revealing its current execution health, the conditions shaping momentum, and the leadership priority most likely to strengthen it.
Your zone is the starting point — not the full diagnosis. It is accompanied by a momentum profile, priority execution risks, strengths to protect, and targeted actions for the next 90 days.

The CMI® adds an early-warning layer to the governance, reporting, delivery, and change approaches already in place. It does not require you to replace your methodology, program team, implementation partners, or existing dashboards.
It can work alongside:
A clearer view of execution health — without adding another methodology to manage.
Where the CMI® applies
The CMI® can provide useful visibility across:
Your zone is accompanied by insight into the conditions strengthening momentum, the risks beginning to emerge, and the leadership priorities most likely to improve execution.
"Transformation risk rarely appears first in the dashboard. It appears in the conditions beneath it."
NSP & Company created the Change Momentum Index® after more than two decades of leading enterprise transformations across Fortune 1000 companies, government agencies, and high-growth organizations.
We built it because we kept seeing the same pattern: organizations investing heavily in transformation — and losing momentum not because of strategy, but because the organizational conditions for change were eroding beneath the surface.
"We had the talent and budget — but we didn't have traction. CMI showed us where to focus, and we got our program back on track in weeks."
— SVP Transformation, Global Services Firm
"For the first time, we had a clear picture of where execution momentum was breaking down — not just what the status reports were saying."
— CPO, Financial Services Firm
